I Want to Believe

This poem was written for the Sunday Scribblings prompt: Story

Weave me a story
of candy and roses and
utter devotion, of
kisses and caresses
and wicked passions
that warm a frigid heart
curing the loneliness
that bludgeons me
within the darkest night.

Let it begin with
'Once upon a time'
all the best ones do.
Tell me of the princess
alone in her dark tower
abandoned and deserted
her heart aching
longing for liberation.

But never need she worry
for her dashing prince awaits
upon his handsome steed
ready to free her from her prison
sweep her off her feet and
awaken her affections
with that lustful kiss.

Tell me a story of
love's enchantment
of burgeoning desire
bursting with ecstasy.
Maybe it will heal
this mutilated heart
entice it to believe
in candy and roses
in kisses and caresses and
star-crossed lovers
locked in heated embraces.

'Once upon a time...'

    Knock and ye shall enter
Ask, and ye shall be given

Keep searching and hoping, and your beautiful sentiments will find their blessing.

  2. Jane, your writing is touching and from your depths. Does not strike me as "insane" in any way. You are one talented poet. "Once upon a time" sometimes really does come true.....

  6. The perfect fairytale indeed! I love how you juxtapose the world of love and fantasy with the emotions of loneliness and longing. The title is perfect for this piece. I think we'd all like to believe in this kind of love. Perhaps it can one day become a reality :)

  7. 'Weave me a story of candy and roses' what a fantastic opener..if only it would help..very stark, very real, but also well measured...and can't wait to hear what the next line is..Jae

  8. Once upon a time, a prince and a princess, living in distress, made their story beautiful and memorable.
Once upon a time, they made it happen, I want to believe, even today.

    Cheers,
